Extremis is the 16th episode of season two.
Synopsis
When S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Mallen is fired by General Nick Fury, Mallen takes the super-serum "Extremis" and mutates into a powerful maniac bent on revenge. When Iron Man tries to fight Mallen, he ends up defeated and in critical health... and his only salvation would be a dose of the selfsame Extremis. However, the serum not only repairs his heart, but also gives him brand-new technopathic powers, now becoming one with his armor, and faces Mallen.

Trivia
- Introduction of Mallen and the Extremis storyplot. Captain America is recovered by S.H.I.E.L.D. though still frozen in ice in this episode. Tony now has technopathic powers, due to taking a regulated dose of Extremis, now able to control computers and his armors. Reed Richards is again being mentioned as a teacher at the university M.I.T. S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Dum-Dum Dugan and Phil Coulson are briefly mentioned by Maria Hill. Nick Fury also mentions future plans for the Avengers.
